The National Bureau of Investigations has suspended its search for a young man in Helsinki’s Kruunuvuorenranta area after a body was discovered in the sea on Thursday evening, Yle reports.
A border guard diver found the unidentified remains in the water near the district. Authorities are now working to confirm the identity of the deceased and determine whether it is the Lahti-based Indian student who went missing in May. The last confirmed sighting of the student was in the same area.
“We have conducted extensive land and water searches based on information suggesting the missing person might be found there,” said Detective Chief Inspector Olli Töyräs of the National Bureau of Investigations. He added that further searches are not currently deemed necessary.
A forensic autopsy and additional examinations will be carried out, a process expected to take time. Police have opened a death investigation but will not release further details until the probe is complete.
