Sensors will be installed in the Sandoy tunnel to investigate why the tunnel has become increasingly wet and foggy, Uni Danielsen, director of the tunnel company, told Faroese broadcaster KVF.

Danielsen said the cause of the conditions remains unclear. Mayors in the Sandoy region have repeatedly asked the tunnel company to address the issue.

Marjun Debes, mayor of Skopun, said drivers no longer feel safe using the tunnel. Similar problems last September were resolved by adjusting the tunnel’s ventilation, which improved conditions both morning and evening. However, the fog has since returned, and Danielsen said the reason is still unknown.
