Tragic incident at Kuusijärvi as seven-year-old boy dies and four-year-old girl hospitalized in critical condition
A seven-year-old boy who went missing at Kuusijärvi has tragically passed away, while a four-year-old girl remains in critical condition in the hospital. This information was released by the Eastern Uusimaa police.
The police are initiating a preliminary investigation into the case, with the children’s parents suspected of crimes including neglect, manslaughter, and causing bodily harm. There are no suspicions against lifeguards or any other bystanders for involvement in any wrongdoing.
The incident occurred last Friday when two children from the same family went missing at the beach. The four-year-old girl and her seven-year-old brother were initially playing at the dock in a shallow area but moved to the deeper side of the dock. The siblings were found unresponsive and resuscitation efforts were made. According to the police, the children had been submerged for nearly 20 minutes. Both were transported to the hospital and were reportedly unable to swim.
The children were at the beach with their father, mother, and two-year-old sibling. An eyewitness interviewed by Yle noted that there was also an older boy, approximately 12 to 13 years old, accompanying the family.
