19-year-old charged in Vantaa landlord killing ordered for psychiatric evaluation
Itä-Uusimaa District Court has ordered a psychiatric evaluation for a 19-year-old man suspected of killing his 75-year-old landlord in Vantaa, Yle reports.
The alleged homicide occurred on Ascension Day afternoon in a Kaivoksela apartment building. The suspect was arrested the same evening at his rental home.
Lead investigator, Detective Chief Inspector Sanna Rentola, said the pre-trial investigation is progressing well with no unexpected developments. The sequence of events is clear to police, but she declined to disclose details publicly, citing strict confidentiality orders from the court.
The suspect has been in custody since May and was previously described as cooperative during interrogations. Authorities are currently investigating the case as a killing but may reassess the charge as the probe continues.
Police have not commented on the psychiatric evaluation decision.
