A 36-year-old man has been sentenced to five years in prison for severe violence and abuse against his five-week-old child, according to a ruling summary from Glostrup Court.
The court found it proven that the father had inflicted injuries on the infant, including a skull fracture, brain hemorrhage, and broken ribs. The violence primarily occurred at the family’s home in Glostrup, prosecutors stated on Anklager Update.
Authorities became aware of the case in September last year when the child was hospitalized after the parents called emergency services due to breathing difficulties. The National Board of Forensic Medicine reviewed the case details and concluded that all evidence indicated the injuries were deliberately inflicted. The board also stated that the child’s injuries were consistent with child abuse and that such a combination of injuries in a five-week-old infant had no other plausible explanation.
The father claimed the injuries resulted from a fall days before the emergency call, saying he had shaken and slapped the child in panic. He has been in pretrial detention and remains in custody following the verdict. He denied guilt and requested time to consider appealing the decision.
A gag order has been imposed, extending to any potential appeal proceedings.
