A Finnish prosecutor is demanding nearly €2 million in compensation for environmental damage after five individuals were charged with aggravated nature conservation offences, aggravated animal welfare violations, and environmental pollution linked to the destruction of beaver dams in Suomussalmi’s Hukkajoki river.
The prosecutor is also seeking corporate fines for three companies involved. The compensation claim is based on Finland’s Nature Conservation Act.
