Dr. Phil cancels Greenland oil drilling visit

The American TV personality Dr. Phil has scrapped plans to visit the remote Greenlandic settlement of Ittoqqortoormiit to document oil drilling operations by Greenland Energy Company, the firm confirmed to Danish broadcaster DR.
In June, Dr. Phil announced in a 40-minute YouTube video that he would travel to the settlement to witness the drilling firsthand, stating: “When the drill breaks through the ground, we’ll be there. We’ll show you everything.”
The project was intended as a multi-part documentary series featuring a “24/7 drill camera” to livestream the drilling in Greenland’s soil.
Greenland Energy Company holds a partnership with British firm 80 Mile, which through a subsidiary controls three licenses permitting both oil exploration and commercial extraction if sufficient reserves are found.
While Greenland halted new oil and gas exploration licenses in July 2021, existing permits remain valid.
