Denmark has designated nine new state energy parks across six municipalities to expand green electricity production, public broadcaster DR reports.
The parks, located in Vesthimmerland, Brønderslev, Kolding, Rebild, Aalborg, and Varde, will support the country’s shift away from fossil fuels in transport, heating, industry, and business.
Housing and Transport Minister Signe Munk said the projects would contribute to climate goals, energy security, and green industry. The designation allows municipalities to bypass certain planning rules, such as forestry and coastal zone restrictions, under the 2023 law on state-designated energy parks.
Local opposition has emerged in some areas over concerns about the visual impact of wind turbines and solar panels. Munk acknowledged the concerns but said the process had provided clarity for municipalities, businesses, and residents.
Industry group DI Energi welcomed the move, with deputy director Troels Ranis calling it a necessary step to accelerate onshore wind and solar expansion.
