Mikkeli shooting victim stable, suspect to face court
The victim of a weekend shooting in Mikkeli remains in stable condition, police confirmed on Tuesday. The incident is being investigated as attempted murder.
A 21-year-old man suspected in the case will be presented for detention at South Savo District Court on Tuesday. Authorities stated the suspect, a Mikkeli resident with a prior criminal record including theft and drug offences as a minor, was among at least two individuals arrested in the Rokkala area, roughly three kilometres from the Peitsari crime scene.
Investigators, led by Detective Inspector Tarja Lehtonen, have declined to release details about the individuals involved or the circumstances of the violence. Police have also moved to counter online speculation, explicitly denying claims that the victim had died.
Lehtonen noted that while anonymous online discussions may encourage witnesses to share observations, such posts—often containing misinformation—cannot be treated as factual. She warned that publishing names or images of those involved could constitute a crime, including defamation or violation of privacy.
The operation took place near a residential parking area in Peitsari, with no reported disruptions to the investigation from onlookers.
