A 72-year-old man in Nykøbing Falster was robbed after a man claiming to represent the Danish Cancer Society obtained his phone number on the street, Lolland-Falster Police report.

A woman later called the victim, saying she was from the charity, and visited his home. While he was out of the room fetching coffee, she stole jewellery and a wallet containing cash.

Police are urging caution when unknown individuals ask to enter homes. Lars Steffensen, head of the investigation into organised and economic crime in the district, told Ritzau that while impersonating charity workers is not new, this method—approaching someone on the street, taking their number, and later visiting their home—is unusual.

Steffensen advised the public to remain sceptical if something seems off, though he stressed this should not be taken as a general warning against legitimate charities.
