Twelve new speed cameras will be installed on Highway 4 between Äänekoski and Pihtipudas, according to a report by Yle.

The Central Finland Vitality Centre stated the cameras aim to improve road safety on the stretch, which saw 196 police-reported traffic accidents between 2021 and 2025, including four fatalities and 30 injuries.

The modern automated cameras use radar technology to detect speeding from up to 150 meters away, a greater range than previous models. Installation begins the week of July 13, with the cameras expected to be operational by the end of the year.

Additional signs will be added to inform drivers of the camera surveillance. Authorities will also review the placement of speed limit signs to ensure sufficient distance between the sign and the camera.
