Shooting has resumed at Ruutikangas, Finland’s largest shooting range, after a months-long hiatus following the appointment of a new operator, Yle reports.

The range, located on the border of Liminka and Lumijoki, was closed in spring after the previous operator, the Oulu Region Shooting Sports Centre association, terminated its contract. Owner Ruutikunnat Oy has now signed an agreement with 2RS Events Oy to reopen the facility to the public.

The state has invested millions of euros in the range’s construction over the years. The new partnership aims to expand services at the 90-hectare site, which includes ranges for pistol, small-bore rifle, and long-distance rifle shooting, as well as moving targets and a compact course.

2RS Events CEO Risto Viippola said operations would begin quickly, with priority given to setting up a booking system. Initially, 2–3 staff will be hired, with training starting immediately.

Ruutikunnat Oy CEO Jarkko Koskela noted that the three-month pause had been productive, with new ranges opened and competitions—including Nordic and national championships—held during the interim. He described the new arrangement as a fresh start, aiming for flexible operations to serve the public.

Ruutikunnat Oy is jointly owned by the municipalities of Liminka and Lumijoki and the cities of Oulu and Raahe.
