June drownings in Finland double from last year
Sixteen people drowned in Finland in June, twice as many as in June 2025, according to preliminary figures from the Finnish Lifesaving and Lifeguarding Federation (SUH).
Eight people drowned in June last year, the SUH reported.
However, the total number of drownings from January to June remains nearly identical to the same period in 2025.
Of Juneโs drownings, six occurred while swimming and three in boating incidents. The circumstances of seven cases are still under investigation.
