A man was stabbed in central Helsinki early Sunday morning, according to a report by Finnish public broadcaster Yle.

The incident occurred around 3:30 a.m. on Mannerheimintie, near the Forum shopping centre and opposite the Stockmann department store. Police have identified the precise location as Mannerheimintie 16.

Helsinki police duty investigating officer Tapio Hyvönen said the stabbing followed a verbal argument that escalated into a physical fight. A 43-year-old man is suspected of stabbing a 27-year-old man in the upper body with a knife. Authorities are treating the case as attempted murder.
