Lampedusa, migration, Pope Leo

Pope Leo lost his skullcap to a gust of wind during a visit to the Italian island of Lampedusa on Saturday, as reported by SVT.

The incident occurred while he was on the island for a ceremony to bless the memorial site Porta d’Europa, a place of remembrance for migrants who have died attempting to reach Europe by sea.

Lampedusa, a small island in the Mediterranean between Africa and Europe, has become a key arrival point for migrant boats. The memorial marks the site of past maritime disasters in which migrants perished.

Pope Francis previously visited the island in 2013, his first official trip outside Rome after becoming pope.
