Left-Green Movement struggles as Social Democratic Alliance leads in Icelandic voter support

According to a recent national survey by Gallup, the Left-Green Movement (Vinstri græn) is currently supported by only 3.5% of voters, reflecting a significant decline. In contrast, the Social Democratic Alliance (Samfylkingin) leads with 27.6% support, a slight increase from the previous month.

If elections were held today, more voters would opt for the Socialist Party (Sósíalistaflokkurinn) at 4.7%, surpassing the Left-Green Movement. The Independence Party (Sjálfstæðisflokkurinn) follows with 17.2%, experiencing a drop of over one percentage point from last month. The Center Party (Miðflokkurinn) enjoys the backing of 14.6% of the electorate, having tripled its support since the 2021 elections. Meanwhile, both the Reform Party (Viðreisn) and the People’s Party (Flokk fólksins) would receive 8.8% and 8.6% of votes, respectively. The Pirate Party (Píratar) stands at 7.8%, losing one percentage point compared to the previous month, while support for the Progressive Party (Framsóknarflokkurinn) has risen to 7.2%.

Despite the Socialist Party’s growth, it remains below the five percent threshold needed for representation in parliament. The Left-Green Movement continues to struggle, with only 3.5% of voters indicating their intention to support the party. Support for the coalition government remains steady, with 27% of respondents expressing their approval, bringing the total support for the governing parties to 28%.
