Man in his 70s drowns in Savitaipale

A man in his 70s was found dead in the water in Savitaipale, South Karelia, on Friday evening, according to Southeast Finland Police.

The man was discovered about 25 metres from shore, with a boat nearby. Authorities have not confirmed whether he had been using the boat or had gone to retrieve it.

Police received the emergency call shortly after 7 pm. No witnesses to the incident have been identified. The body was found by a person searching for the missing man.

Investigators are working to determine the cause of the drowning. Police have stated there is no suspicion of foul play.
