Man charged with assault at World Cup screening event

A 31-year-old man has been charged with assault after an attack during a World Cup public screening on Islands Brygge in Copenhagen, DR Nyheder reports.

The suspect, who was previously wanted by police, denies the charges. He has prior convictions, including a seven-year prison sentence for violating knife laws and attempted murder, according to the indictment.

Prosecutors have requested seven weeks of pre-trial detention. Both the accused and the victim are under a court-ordered name ban.

The 32-year-old Swedish victim remains in critical condition after suffering a brain hemorrhage, police confirmed. He has been transferred to a neurological ward for observation.
