The Faroese abortion law took effect on 1 July, reports KVF.

Bjørk Sadembou, chair of Pro Vita, called the day a “day of mourning” and said the group would continue working to ensure Faroese people see fetuses as children.

Marna Jacobsen, former chair of the Demokratia party and a long-time advocate for women’s rights, welcomed the law, which shifts the decision on abortion from doctors to the woman, who has free choice up to the 12th week.

The law was approved in its third and final reading on 4 December last year with 17 votes in favor and 16 against.
