Man sentenced to life for stabbing wife to death in Västerås

A 63-year-old man has been sentenced to life in prison for stabbing his 54-year-old wife to death outside her home in Västerås in November 2025, SVT Nyheter reports.

The couple were in the process of divorcing at the time of the killing. The court cited aggravating circumstances linked to a concept of honour, noting the man had been highly controlling towards his wife. The murder was committed in front of their two children.

According to the district court, the motive was clearly the man’s inability to accept that his wife intended to leave him.
