The municipal fire station in Tórshavn, which handles electric vehicles from across the Faroe Islands, currently has four batteries and four electric cars in storage, with fewer than 10 electric cars submitted for disposal so far.
According to Eyðdis Hartmann Niclasen, a government minister, it remains unresolved who will bear the costs and responsibility for disposing of electric vehicles. The Health and Energy Ministry is working on the issue, she stated in response to a query from MP Steffan Klein Poulsen.
Stena Recycling estimates it costs 20,400 DKK to manually dismantle an electric car battery. If the battery is damaged, the cost rises to 71,200 DKK.
Two batteries from car dealers have already been sent abroad for repair.
