A 53-year-old man has been remanded in custody on suspicion of attempting to murder his under-10-year-old son in Pyhtää during Midsummer, Yle reports.

The incident occurred near the Savukoski museum bridge on the night of 21–22 June. The man and his son were on a weekend trip alone when the crime took place. According to Detective Inspector Tuomas Lindholm of Helsinki Police, the man interrupted the situation himself and called emergency services, after which police arrested him at the scene.

Lindholm stated that police have a preliminary understanding of the motive but declined to disclose details, including the method of the attempted murder. He noted the man has been cooperative during questioning.

The boy remains hospitalised but is not in life-threatening condition. Police have already interviewed him.

The Helsinki District Court remanded the man in custody on probable cause last Thursday. The deadline for filing charges is 9 September.
