Seinäjoki murder probe concludes after years, case moves to prosecution
A multi-year investigation into the murder of a man found dead in the basement of an apartment building in Seinäjoki’s Kasperi district has concluded, with the case now moving to prosecutors for consideration of charges, Yle reports.
The approximately 40-year-old man was last seen in late November 2020. Initially treated as a missing person case, the investigation shifted to a murder probe after his body was discovered in June 2021.
Police estimate the homicide occurred in late November 2020. The South Ostrobothnia Police Department, assisted by the National Bureau of Investigations, conducted extensive technical and tactical investigations, including the use of multiple coercive measures.
Five men were detained as suspects in summer 2021. No new suspects have emerged since.
Investigation leader Juha Järvelin, a detective chief inspector, described the case as exceptionally lengthy and complex, requiring years of determined work, technical expertise, and collaboration among specialists. Forensic analysis and the interpretation of its results were central to resolving the case.
