No pilot whale hunts north of Skopunarfjørð this summer

No pilot whale hunts will be permitted north of Skopunarfjørð for the remainder of the summer, the local sheriff Kári Thorsteinsson announced today, following reports of whale sightings both last night and again this morning.

A large pod of 600–700 pilot whales was observed in Leirvíksfjørð this morning, but the hunt was not pursued.

The decision comes after a recent hunt in Havn was completed.
