A Copenhagen City Court ruling from 4 June bars lawyer Helle Hald from representing five women who have reported comedian Jonatan Spang to police, DR reports.
The case was brought by Spang’s defence attorney, Julie Stage, who argued that shared representation risked the women coordinating their statements. The court agreed.
Hald, a partner at Sirius Advokater and chair of the national association of victim support lawyers, maintains there is no legal or practical issue with representing multiple complainants in the same case.
Legal scholar Lasse Lund Madsen, a professor at Aarhus University, supported the court’s decision, calling the arrangement unusual and noting that witness statements must remain independent.
Spang has declined to comment on the ruling. The case began last year when a woman accused him of sexual abuse when she was 15 and he was 31. Further reports followed, and in November Hald confirmed she was acting for five women in the matter.
