construction, Lapland, legal dispute

A district court in Lapland has ruled that Nordic Unique Travels (NUT) unlawfully terminated a construction contract with Finneps, a Satakunta-based building firm, despite quality issues in delivered accommodation units.

The court found that defects in the first 10 of 25 ordered buildings—including electrical, HVAC, window sealing, door installation, and attic ventilation flaws—did not justify cancellation. NUT could have required Finneps to rectify the issues instead.

NUT must pay Finneps €225,000 in damages and legal costs, while Finneps owes NUT €102,000 for price reductions and delay interest. Both sums may incur additional late fees.

Finneps has announced plans to appeal the ruling to the court of appeals. NUT is still considering whether to do the same.
