A legislative change will shift responsibility for collecting health insurance fees from Heilsutrygd to TAKS, the Faroese tax authority, starting next year, reports Kringvarp Føroya.
The current system requires Heilsutrygd to pay TAKS to collect the fees, but under the new law, TAKS will both collect and retain the revenue. The change will transfer two million kroner from Heilsutrygd to TAKS annually.
Heilsutrygd currently lacks access to income data and tax registrations needed to enforce fee collection, a gap the reform aims to close.
