The Danish judicial system could become the framework for the Faroe Islands if the Union Party’s proposal for a new relationship with Denmark is realized.

Yesterday, the Union Party held a press conference titled “New Relationship,” during which the party proposed that the Faroe Islands should have expanded autonomy over foreign policy matters.

The Union Party is leaning on a concept termed “Kingdom Cooperation 2.0,” introduced by Kristian Joensen, a lecturer at the University of the Faroe Islands, alongside Bárður Larsen, head of the law department at the same institution, in April.

However, in their analysis, the legal experts also suggested that the legal system and courts should be Faroese. Here, the Union Party expresses disagreement, indicating a divide in opinions regarding the judicial structure under potential changes to their relationship with Denmark.
