Electricity prices in Denmark defied seasonal norms in June, averaging about 81.4 øre per kilowatt-hour before taxes and fees—the highest for a summer month since the 2022 energy crisis, according to energy provider Andel Energi.
The average price also exceeded February’s, a rare occurrence given winter’s higher demand, said Josefine Walter, commercial director at Andel Energi. June 2024 and 2025 both saw averages below 50 øre.
Price volatility drove the spike, with eastern Denmark seeing swings from -80 øre to 510.9 øre per kilowatt-hour. The gap between the highest and lowest prices reached roughly 5.10 kroner, a level last seen in December 2024.
May also broke records, with prices rising 24% from April to mark the most expensive May since 2022. The government has since cut the electricity tax from 72.7 øre to the EU minimum of 0.8 øre for 2026 and 2027.
