Police in southern Denmark have dropped an investigation into a 63-year-old man from Varde Municipality who fired two warning shots at a pack of wolves in April, according to a statement from Syd- og Sønderjyllands Politi.

The prosecution service concluded that the man did not intend to hit the animals and that the shots caused no harm to the wolves, the statement said. As a result, no criminal charges will be filed.

The incident occurred after six wolves followed the man and his dog. The man, who holds a hunting licence, told DR at the time that he had never been so frightened. The wolves remained near his home and did not respond to shouting or gestures, prompting him to fire the shots to scare them away.

Authorities investigated whether the action violated nature protection laws but determined that the wolves showed no human-directed aggression and had initiated the encounter by following the man.
