Danish energy company Clever, together with owner Andel, will invest 1 billion kroner in 2026 to expand the national charging network, including the construction of 3,000 new public charging stations, the company announced in a press release.

The new stations will be installed along highways and at key traffic hubs, with fast-charging stations planned for locations such as Korsør, Galten, and Ølhom north of Vejle. Last year, Denmark’s network consisted of 16,000 publicly accessible charging points.

Mathias Langkilde Sukstorf, head of network strategy at Clever, said the investment covers both network expansion and new technologies to make charging easier and more accessible. He added that the company aims to ensure charging capacity keeps pace with rising electric vehicle adoption.

Over 90 percent of Danes now choose an electric car when purchasing a new vehicle, according to Clever. A May report from Mobility Denmark, the industry association for car dealers, found that 95.8 percent of private buyers opted for electric models, Ritzau reported.

Clever projects 1.6 million electric cars in Denmark by 2030, up from the current 600,000. Sukstorf stated that a strong charging network is essential to support daily use and long-distance travel.
