Danish roads are set for heavy congestion on Saturday as schools break for summer and holidaymakers hit the motorways, the Danish Road Directorate has warned.

Peak risk periods run from 11:00 to 15:00, with the Vestmotorvejen (Køge–Korsør), Fynske Motorvej (Odense–Jutland), and the Kolding ring road expected to see the worst delays due to both holiday traffic and ongoing roadworks.

“We expect extra traffic today,” said Jacob Majgård Christensen, duty officer at the Road Directorate. “If you can leave around breakfast time, you’ll face a much lower risk of queues.” He advised drivers to allow extra time, maintain safe distances, and stay hydrated in the heat.

The directorate’s traffic forecast for Saturday is marked red—its highest alert level—indicating a high probability of long delays. The same warning applies to all Saturdays from week 27 to 31.

Additional congestion is likely near Roskilde Festival, where camping opens today, and in Odense as Tinderbox festival concludes. Motorists are urged to follow local signage around festival sites.
