Low-pressure system affects weekend weather across Iceland

A low-pressure system located southwest of Iceland is influencing the weather as the country approaches the Merchant Workers’ Weekend. Today, rain is expected in the northern regions, while the south will experience lighter precipitation with sporadic showers in the afternoon. The northwestern areas will see a fresher northeast breeze, while other parts of the country will have mild winds. Temperatures will range from 8 to 16 degrees Celsius.

Tomorrow, the low will move southward and strengthen the easterly to northeasterly winds. Continuous rain is anticipated in the southeastern and eastern parts, with lighter showers in the north and west. By tomorrow afternoon, rain is expected to spread across most regions, particularly heavy in the easternmost areas.

By Saturday evening, a reduction in rainfall is likely in many parts of the country. However, the southern regions may experience increasing winds, with a forecast for strong easterly winds overnight into the earlier part of Saturday. This also applies to the Westman Islands. As the day progresses, winds are expected to ease, but scattered showers may continue in various parts of the country.

Overall, the western area and the interior of North Iceland are anticipated to have the best weather of the weekend, with dry and relatively warm conditions. In the coming days, cloudy and rainy weather will prevail across much of the country.
