A practical nurse convicted of aggravated sexual abuse of a child continues to work in public healthcare in Finland, Yle reports.
The man was sentenced by Kymenlaakso District Court in October 2025 to two years and four months in prison for the abuse, which occurred between 2019 and 2021. The Court of Appeal for Eastern Finland upheld the verdict on 25 June 2026, and the man now seeks leave to appeal to the Supreme Court.
According to Yle, the nurse is employed by the Kymenlaakso Wellbeing Services County. His name appears in the public JulkiTerhikki healthcare database, and his LinkedIn profile lists his employer. He told Yle by phone that his supervisors are aware of the conviction and that his job duties remain unchanged.
The court found he had repeatedly abused a 13- to 15-year-old girl, including touching her and her genitals, penetrating her with his finger, showing her violent sexual videos, and suggesting further sexual acts once she turned 16. He also ordered her not to tell anyone.
Yle was unable to reach the Kymenlaakso Wellbeing Services County for comment on Friday regarding awareness of the conviction.
