Norwegian man sentenced to life for double murder in Sweden
Norway A Norwegian man in his 30s has been sentenced to life in prison for a double murder in Gothenburg last year, Swedish newspaper Expressen reports.
The Gothenburg district court described the killings as “pure executions.” The man was also convicted of serious weapons offenses and crimes committed in Norway.
The double murder took place in broad daylight on September 2 in the Lunden area of Gothenburg. Two Swedish men were found shot dead in a parked car. A Norwegian man was arrested shortly afterward in Oslo’s Grønland district.
No witnesses saw the shooting, but several heard gunshots. One neighbor testified in court to hearing “four rapid bangs,” according to NRK.
Prosecutor Karin Lindell told NRK the suspect “came like a torpedo and executed two people in cold blood inside a car.”
The man admitted firing the shots but claimed self-defense, denying criminal liability. The court rejected this, stating it was “obvious” he intentionally fired the fatal shots.
The court ruled the killings appeared to be “pure executions” and were premeditated. After shooting each victim twice from behind, the man fled on a black electric scooter to a nearby parked Mercedes, Lindell said.
Police investigated the murders as a possible contract killing but have not identified who may have ordered them.
The defendant, a southern Norwegian, admitted to the killings but insisted they were not planned. He told the court he met the victims to buy five grams of cocaine.
