Teenager dies after swimming accident

A teenager died after a swimming accident on Sunnmøre in western Norway early Friday, police confirmed.

Emergency services received reports of the incident just before 1:30 a.m. Two teenagers, a boy and a girl, were present at the scene. According to police, the boy encountered difficulties after a jump into the water, and the girl managed to pull him ashore.

“The victim was retrieved from the water, and life-saving first aid was administered,” operations manager Per Åge Ferstad stated in the police log.

The boy was airlifted by rescue helicopter to Haukeland University Hospital in Bergen, but police confirmed his death shortly before 6 a.m. His family has been notified.
