Finnish fur company Saga Furs reported a nearly 130 percent increase in fur pelt brokerage sales for the first half of the year ending in April, according to public broadcaster Yle.
Sales reached €227 million, up from €101 million in the same period last year. The company’s turnover grew to €21.1 million, while its operating result improved to €1.4 million from a loss of €3.4 million a year earlier.
CEO Markus Gotthardt attributed the turnaround to renewed market confidence and a sustainable price level for producers. Strong auction demand in spring raised mink pelt prices by nearly 80 percent, with optimistic expectations for June’s auction and the full-year results.
Reduced production has also supported higher prices. The upcoming auction will offer 4.3 million mink pelts and 200,000 fox pelts, primarily targeting Chinese buyers who largely set auction prices. The company noted adjustments to collections, including shorter fur coat models, and a gradual recovery in the use of fox pelts for trimmings.
