Klaksvík municipality will request a 20 million krona operating credit line due to unexpectedly high debt servicing costs, according to a proposal to be presented at a town council meeting Thursday evening, Kringvarp Føroya reports.

The council’s finance committee has endorsed the measure, which requires a political majority for approval. The proposal notes that without additional credit, the municipality risks being unable to meet its financial obligations.

A review of the municipality’s accounts for the first months of the year also revealed that some operational areas are struggling to stay within budget.

Further financial commitments may require additional borrowing if approved by the council.
