A new survey by Sylva, a support organisation for children, adolescents, and young adults with cancer, shows a sharp decline in parental well-being during their child’s treatment.

The share of parents reporting poor well-being has risen from 16% in 2022 to 36% this year, according to the latest barometer. The survey also found that four out of five parents experienced a drop in income while their child was undergoing cancer treatment.

Sylva has tracked family well-being and support needs since 2021. The most recent survey collected responses from 139 parents and guardians of children with cancer.
