Parents cannot limit children’s screen time on their own and political action is needed, according to Lillian B. Poulsen, a public health nurse and deputy head at Gigni, the Faroese public health agency.
In her work, Poulsen advises families on screen use during a child’s first 18 months. She says this guidance alone is insufficient.
Poulsen has also personally experienced how excessive screen time can affect a child’s language development.
Her comments follow recent warnings from other specialists that children’s language skills in the Faroe Islands are deteriorating, with excessive screen exposure cited as a serious contributing factor.
