Climate activist Greta Thunberg appears in Copenhagen City Court on Wednesday to face trespass charges stemming from two protests, Danish broadcaster DR reports.
Prosecutors seek a fine, while Thunberg’s defence team will argue for acquittal. Her lawyer, Tyge Trier, confirmed she would attend and provide testimony.
The first charge relates to a 4 September 2024 action at the University of Copenhagen, where Thunberg and other activists from the pro-Palestinian group Students Against Occupation entered the university’s administration building in Nørregade. The group allegedly gained unauthorised access to an office and remained there.
The second charge involves a 13 May 2025 protest at Maersk Tankers, where activists from the Green Youth Movement occupied offices. Thunberg is accused of trespass in both cases.
In court, she will explain her participation, citing calls for the university to boycott Israeli institutions and for Maersk to halt weapons shipments to Israel and stop delivering fossil fuels.
Trier said the case would likely hinge on free speech arguments. The trial is scheduled for two days, with no date yet set for the verdict.
