Pormestari’s portrait features rival team’s logo

Tampere’s former mayor Kalervo Kummola was surprised to find the logo of Porin Ässät, a hockey team from Pori, in his official portrait, Yle reports.

The portrait, unveiled last week, shows part of the logo near Kummola’s shoulder. He said he would have preferred the logos of Tampere’s own teams, Tappara and Ilves, given that the city funded the artwork.

Kummola, now chair of Tampere’s city council, had requested the Tampere Arena as the background but did not discuss advertisements or team logos with the artist, professor Timo Vuorikoski. Vuorikoski, who painted the portrait, told Ilta-Sanomat he is willing to remove the Ässät logo or add those of Tappara and Ilves if requested.

Kummola served as mayor from 2023 to 2025 and has led the city council since 2025.
