Þórður Snær Júlíusson has announced his resignation from Heimildin, where he served as editor alongside Ingibjörg Dögg Kjartansdóttir since the merger of Kjarninn and Stundin in late 2022. He is the founder of Kjarninn and has been at the helm since its inception.
In a Facebook post, Þórður stated that the time has come for a change in direction, expressing that no one is irreplaceable and assuring that Heimildin is on a stable course. He recently informed the board of the United Publishing Company, the publisher of Heimildin, of his intention to step down as editor, and this decision was formalized today.
Reflecting on his departure, Þórður mentioned the strange feelings associated with leaving something he had significantly contributed to creating. However, he believes this is the right step at this moment. He expressed immense gratitude and pride for the opportunity to embark on this challenging journey of founding a small, critical media outlet within a competitive landscape.
