The chair of the Faroese Health Workers’ Union, Mary Antonsdóttir, has requested a meeting with Finance Minister Aksel V. Johannesen to discuss emergency preparedness in the event of a strike, but has yet to receive a reply.
No negotiations are currently scheduled between the union and the Municipal Employers’ Association (KAF), Antonsdóttir confirmed. She first sought the meeting with Johannesen two weeks ago, seeking clarity on contingency plans and the possibility of shortening the workweek as outlined in a collective agreement.
Talks between the Health Workers’ Union and KAF broke down without agreement two weeks ago. The dispute centres on a public-sector wage deal covering 12 unions, which provides for a 3.87% pay rise from 1 October last year to 30 September this year. The Health Workers’ Union is not party to this agreement.
