Thousands of Norway fans took to the streets of Oslo early Tuesday, celebrating the national team’s 3-2 World Cup victory over Senegal with spontaneous chants and rowing motions on the pavements, Dagbladet reports.

A large crowd gathered on the palace steps, where supporters marched before dawn shouting, “We’re going to wake the king.” The euphoria followed Norway’s dramatic win in New Jersey, with fans in Kongens gate and Spikersuppa erupting in cheers after each goal.

Henrik Haveland and Marcus Gangdal, who traveled from Sogn to join the celebrations, called the match a display of Norway’s strength. “It was absolutely fantastic,” Gangdal said. Jan Krokseth and Amund Haugli Hansen, also in the capital, described the game as exceeding expectations, though Krokseth noted the final ten minutes were nerve-wracking.

Princess Ingrid Alexandra and Prince Sverre Magnus were among those celebrating in the stands at MetLife Stadium, where jubilant scenes unfolded after the final whistle.
