Police stop teen driving sofa in Kaarina
Police in Kaarina, southwestern Finland, stopped a teenager driving a homemade vehicle made from an electric scooter and a sofa, Yle reports.
The contraption spanned the full width of a light traffic lane, creating a hazard for other road users. Authorities declined to provide further details, citing the driver’s age.
Southwest Finland Police communications specialist Katri Tammio noted that operating an unregulated vehicle can result in fines. The police had previously received reports of the scooter-sofa combination in October, when it was carrying a passenger.
Officials warned that such homemade vehicles pose serious safety risks and do not meet any legal requirements. Finnish traffic law limits the maximum width of multi-wheeled bicycles to 1.25 meters.
Transporting oversized items on an electric scooter may also lead to penalties if the vehicle is deemed uncontrollable.
