Five members of Runavík municipal council are pressing their case against a decision to annul the entire local election in the municipality, calling it an unjust and ill-considered move to invalidate the vote over a single irregularity.

Tóri Højgaard, deputy mayor of Runavík and one of the five, confirmed the group has filed a complaint with the Finance Ministry. The Supreme Court is expected to rule on the case within weeks, with legal observers noting it centers on electoral fraud allegations.

Højgaard told Faroese public broadcaster KVF that scrapping the election result on the basis of one disputed ballot is disproportionate. The Prime Minister’s Office has declined to comment, stating the matter is now before the Faroese courts.
