A fault in the rail system between Järvenpää and Jokela in Uusimaa is expected to be repaired by 15:00 on Monday, according to Fintraffic’s Rail Traffic Control Centre.

The issue has caused delays on the main rail line since 08:00, with disruptions lasting from 30 minutes to nearly two hours. Some trains have been rerouted via a detour track, but the effects are expected to persist into the early evening.

The fault occurred when an excavator working on rail construction in the area severed a cable. A similar incident took place last week.

VR, the national rail operator, reported that 19 trains have been delayed or cancelled due to the fault. Several commuter trains have also been cancelled.

Among those affected were MP Päivi Räsänen of the Christian Democrats and Aino-Kaisa Pekonen, chair of the Left Alliance’s parliamentary group, who were travelling from Riihimäki to Helsinki. Räsänen announced on X that she would be late for a parliamentary plenary session due to the delay.
