The Faroese labour force grew to 30,400 in May, an increase of 450 compared to the same month last year, according to figures from the Faroese statistics agency Hagstova.
Men accounted for 15,450 of the total, up 290 (1.9%), while women numbered 14,900, an increase of 160 (1.1%). The agency noted that while employment has risen overall, growth has slowed in recent years.
Tórshavn municipality alone represented roughly 45% of the total increase, with notable growth also in Klaksvík, Eystur, and Runavík. Hov saw the largest proportional rise at 25%. Meanwhile, nine municipalities recorded declines, with Kvívík experiencing the sharpest drop.
The labour force count includes residents aged 13 and older who receive taxable income equivalent to at least four hours of work per month.
