Herning hosts final shared national championships week
Herning is hosting its last shared national championships week with Aalborg, as the event will now rotate among cities across Denmark, reports DR.
The week-long DM-Ugen brings together 45 different sports, from beach volleyball to billiards, crowning 135 national champions. For the past four years, the event has alternated between Herning and Aalborg, but starting next year, Aarhus will take over, followed by Copenhagen in 2028.
Herning’s mayor, Dorte West, confirmed the city is in talks with the Danish Sports Federation (DIF) to host again in 2029. She highlighted the event’s significance in showcasing the city and its offerings.
DIF chairman Hans Natorp said the rotation follows the event’s development in Aalborg and Herning, adding that future hosts must demonstrate strong commitment. The 2026 edition in Herning runs this week.
